23rd birthday eve

Today is my birthday eve, and I have had an amazing day!

I woke up and got a visit from my Grandma and Grandpa Averett. Gma and Gpa A. are my grandparents on my fathers side. They live in SLC, and I haven't seen them in about a year and a half. They were on their way down to AZ to see my dad and stopped by to hand deliver my birthday card!

Me, gma A. and Cali about 15 years ago.

So after going to lunch and having a chat with my Gma & Gpa A. I came home and worked out to my Carmen Electra Strip to Fit Aerobics dvd [my favorite workout in the whole world] and went tanning. I got all ready for the day and went down to check my mail. I was very excited to see that I got a package!! It was from Cali! It was the best birthday package I've ever gotten! It had in it 3 very awesome presents and an adorable card. in the package was:

1. A roll of quarters - Cali and I talk on the phone several times a week. almost everytime we talk, i am doing 1 of 2 things. driving home from work, or walking to the laundry room. So when Cali asked what I wanted for my birthday, all I could think of was "quarters to do laundry"!

2. Homemade beef Jerky. Almost every birthday, I have asked Cali to make me a batch of her famous homemade beef jerky. This year I didn't even have to ask! She just put it right in the package!

3. The most freaking adorable necklace I have ever seen! I saw this online [http://www.modcloth.com/] a few months ago, but it has been out of stock forever. When it finally became available again, Cali [best big sister ever] snatched it up and sent it my way!!

Needless to say, I am very freaking stoked for tomorrow!!!!

Ready, Set, Fence!

Lately, I've been feeling pretty stagnant. I go to work, I come home. Don't get me wrong, my life is incredible. I feel secure and loved and like the possibilities are endless. I think I just feel like I haven't been learning anything new for a while [I've been out of beauty school almost 2 years now]. So to remedy this, I've decided to take a class...

and that class is....

FENCING!
You totally didn't see that coming, did you? My clients think I'm psycho, but here are my many reasons for wanting to take a fencing class.
1. I've had a hidden desire to learn "the way of the sword" since the first time I watched The Princess Bride, when I was like, 6 months old.
2. I am getting board with treadmill-ing and strip aerobics-ing. Fencing is a great way to stay active
3. It was one of the only community ed classes I wouldn't have to change my work schedule for
4. I will be learning something new!
5. I hope, one day, I'll be cool enough to sport all-white and the sweet bee-keeper protective mask.
6. I can totally challenge people to duels now, and be for-reals about it!
7. It's a lost art.
8. It's probably the closest thing to a "dance class" I'd be comfortable with
9. The class lasts 4 whole months, and was only $50! Most of the other community ed classes were only a few weeks and some cost way more than that!
10. The instructor of the class has trained 12 people for the Fencing event in the freakin Olympics! Uhh... Sweet!
11. [and probably the most important to me]. How cool is it going to be to casually say in conversation "yea, I know how to fence..."
So there you have it. 11 very logical reasons for my choice in community education classes!

top 5 tuesday

So, I have been terrible about blogging lately, and I figured no one would notice since I didn't think anyone read it.However, Mrs. Emily Chapman brought it to my attention that I have at least one reader. Since I haven't been doing anything out of the norm, I couldn't think of anything to write about, but since I made the New Years resolution to be a bit more positive, I decided I'll write about 5 things I'm all about [and one thing I can't stand]...

1: Sushi. Anyone who knows anything about me knows about my [fairly] new found love of sushi. Brady and I have attempted to order a new roll every time we go, [usually once a week] but lately we have been getting stuck on the same old... Las Vegas, Philly, Winter, and Tempura rolls.

2. Ruffled Shirts: I am usually not girly enough to go for a trend that includes ruffles, lace, or shiny things... but lately I have been picking up button-up ruffly shirts left and right! They look great with jeans or slacks or skirts, and they have a subtle pirate appeal...

3. How I Met Your Mother: It's nothing new, I love sitcoms. Who doesn't? But HIMYM is so involving and real, it makes you want to move to NYC and become the character's friend. The cast includes, Alyson Hannigan, Jason Segel, and Neil Patrick Harris, among others. and is absolutely hilarious.

4. Gin & Tonics: It stands true as my favorite drink. refreshing, comforting, and easy to make, I don't see this G&T's jumping out of my top 5 in a long, long time

5. Forgive Durden's "Razia's Shadow": This album is awesome. A musical about love and death, [although it's really much deeper than that] it isn't your typical Romeo & Juliet emo cry-your-self-to-sleep-cuz-your-boyfriend-broke-your-heart bull crap. It's beautiful and incorporates the sounds of the likes of Say Anything, Panic @ the Disco, Saves the Day, Gatspy's American Dream, Portugal the Man, The Hush Sound and lots more...

And to conclude this blog, 1 thing I can't stand: People complaining about the cold weather in December. It's December... It's cold. I personally love the rain...
